Following the 2014 NATO Summit in Newport, Wales, where actions were taken by members to strengthen collective defense, it seems that the alliance is undergoing a renewal. We are pleased and honored to host the Foreign Minister of Lithuania, Linas Linkevičius for a discussion on the future of NATO. Having recently authored a seminal chapter in CTR’s new publication, “Advancing U.S.-Nordic-Baltic Security Cooperation,” Minister Linkevičius will lend his expertise to this discussion of this important region and will sign copies of the book after the event. A career diplomat and statesman, Linas Linkevičius was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs on December 13, 2012. Previously he has served as the Lithuanian Permanent Representative to NATO from 2005 until 2011. Prior to this he was elected as a Member of Seimas (Parliament) from 1992 until 1996. In 1993, he was promoted to Minister of National Defence of Lithuania, a post which he held from 1993-1996. He was then appointed as the Ambassador and Head of Mission of Lithuania to NATO and the WEU. From 2000-2004, Ambassador Linkevicius was appointed again as Minister of National Defence of Lithuania. From 2004-2005, he was the Ambassador for Special Missions at the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
