“Blinders, Blunders, and Wars,” published by the RAND Corporation, analyzes eight case studies of historic strategic blunders and four “control” studies in which a blunder was averted. The book makes recommendations both for U.S. decision making structures and for U.S.-China relations. The full book is available at
David Gompert previously served as Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence. Hans Binnendijk last served as Vice President of the National Defense University and is currently a Senior Fellow at CTR. Both authors have served several tours at the National Security Council and together they have served in every Presidential Administration since that of Richard M. Nixon.
